Developing online PDP and IAG resources for work-based learners

Posted on: 04 October 2007

This project aims to develop a resource to support the implementation of a generic Individual Learning Plan which will support the Professional Development Process for work-based learners and also link into online IAG resources, developed by GMSA (Pathways Project).  The resources will be developed in consultation with members of the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network to ensure that there is buy in from the WBL sector.

It has been recognised that there is an issue in recording and documenting learner aims and achievements, particularly in the adult learning sector.  There is a need to develop systems which can accurately record PDP, both accredited and non-accredited, to ensure a coherent programme of learning opportunities can be planned for the workforce.

A programme of learning opportunities needs to be planned with the involvement of the provider, employer and learner to ensure that the needs of the organisation and learner are considered when developing PDP programmes.  Therefore, a systematic approach to PDP needs to be taken, ensuring that aims, goals and achievements are monitored, reviewed and evaluated at key stages throughout the learning process, using an online Individual Learning Plan which will be a ‘live’ document to record all this information.

The linking of this PDP portfolio will enable all users (learners, tutors, instructors and employers) to utilise the existing Pathways tool to plan future development opportunities.
