The project is a research project that will use an existing dataset of Access students (6,000) who provided details of name, ethnicity, gender, age and contact address when they attended the University Enrichment Programme. For each of the years involved in the dataset 2000 – 2006 about half of the students studying the Access course in local colleges made the transition to the University of Salford. This data will be compared with HEFCE’s national analysis of Access course completion and transition and with GMOCN’s data on completion and progression rates.
Stage one is the completion of the University of Salford’s ethical procedure for research projects
Stage two is a mail shot to all on the dataset asking six questions and asking for involvement through informed consent.
Stage three is the conduct of semi-structured interviews with a sample of students from the mailshot.
Stage four is the transcription and analysis of the data using NVivo software.
Stage five is the presentation of findings to GMSA/Aimhigher and conferences.
Stage six is the publication of a series of peer refereed journal articles.
