GMSA Team

Cath has been Director of GMSA since May 2006. In her previous role as Higher Skills Development Director at Manchester Enterprises, Cath worked closely with the Greater Manchester Strategic Development Agency, universities, colleges and work-based learning providers to support the development of higher education programmes relevant to the higher skill needs of employers. She began her career as a secondary school teacher and has run her own business, but has spent the last 16 years in the higher education sector, working as a lecturer, a programme manager, Learning Development coordinator and director of Widening Participation and Collaborative Partnerships. Cath is committed to partnership working within the higher education sector, with external employer networks and other groups. Her primary role in the GMSA is to direct the development of collaborative projects such as the Lifelong Learning Network (LLN). This project will expand the progression opportunities and vocational higher education programmes suited to employer needs and individuals who chose not to follow a traditional A-Level route into higher education.

Mervyn took up his position in February 2007. With a PHD in Chemistry, he has15 years experience in chemical research and development, and manufacturing. After successfully achieving an MBA, Mervyn moved into to the field of university research. At the GMSA he is responsible for managing the finance and programme management. This means overseeing the staff facilities and partnership agreements to support the delivery of the project.

Sharon joined the in GMSA December 2007 as the PA to Cath Walsh and Office Manager.  She is an experienced personal assistant, having worked in the private sector property industry, from estate agents to design build and property management, for a number of years.
