The Creative Industries and Digital Media sector in Greater Manchester employs around 53,000 people with mmore than 7,000 business units. This sector is forecast to grow by 19 per cent during the next decade.
The relocation of the BBC to the sub-region is an opportunity for the sector to make a further quantum leap forward with significant increase in employment and business growth.
As well as developing progression pathways, this Sector Development Group (SDG) is working closely with employer networks and Sector Skills Councils to examine learning that will meet the needs of employers and employees. This flexible employer-led learning will be made available through the GMSA Advance project. The initial stages of this development are being delivered through key special projects with support from the group.
Other projects are exploring the following areas: progression working with admissions in art, design and media, progression of learners and staff development to meet industry need for scriptwriting skills, progression for apprentices (working with the BBC and other key organisations), progression of diverse entrants into arts/cultural leadership with the Arts Council, providing Personal Development Plans (PDP) for new entrants into the creative industries working with Creative Industries Development Service, existing PDP enhancement within The Manchester College's music department.
